Labs Accelerator reaches its pinnacle at The GherkinFeb 10, 2017
On February 8, the hot white focus of London’s financial technology sector was aimed at the top of The Gherkin building. Five innovative new businesses were celebrating the culmination of their accelerator programme with Octopus Labs. The five startups — MOOLA, cityFALCON, Squirrel, Freetrade and Advicefront — were provided a rare opportunity to pitch directly to an audience of high-profile investors, distributors, customers and influencers in one of London’s most stunning venues.
“Great venue, awesome set-up, quality audience,” noted Ruzbeh Bacha of cityFALCON, having gathered several investor and sales leads throughout the evening.
Andrew Jordan of MOOLA comment, “We know a lot of organisation goes into pulling off something so slick...Really positive meetings from the impressive guest-list.”
A possibly overly exuberant Adam Dodds of Freetrade remarked, “That had to be the best venue for a Demo Day ever — in the history of the world.”
Last summer, the five businesses were chosen from over 80 applicants to take part in Labs’ accelerator programme. Over the fall and winter, they shared temporary workspace in Octopus’s central London headquarters, while undergoing intense business development and mentorship from some of the industry’s top experts and most successful entrepreneurs.
“We’re delighted to have been able to support five such inspirational companies,” commented Rich Wazacz, Head of Octopus Labs, “all of whom are developing products that have the potential to scale quickly and change the way financial advisers and their clients make the most of their money.”
Judging by the excited generated that evening at the Gherkin, plenty of potential investors and customers share Rich’s enthusiasm.
